We have amazing students at Wayne High School. They win writing contests, create independent projects that highlight their interests through essays, presentations, and videos, and publish their works in the school literary anthology. I am honored to be here and have the opportunity to work with some bright and dedicated young people who have inspired me to help young writers find their voices.
To help my students achieve their goals as both writers and future leaders, I have become an Oklahoma Writing Project Teacher Consultant and am working towards becoming a National Board Certified Teacher. You can follow my progress at my professional education website reThinkELA.com. You can follow my blog using an RSS reader, or via my reThink ELA Facebook page or @watersenglish Twitter account.
Teaching is my dream job. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was seven years old, but forgot for about 30 years. During that time, I served as a student and professional newspaper reporter and editor and also started my own web hosting company, which I managed for almost 10 years. After selling my business, I taught web design classes for adults at Mid-American Technology Center, and then in 2011, I started teaching high school English, Mythology, and Creative Writing. I've also advised yearbook staffs, produced a student newspaper, and a literary anthology.
I have been a proud Wayne Bulldog since 2015.
I graduated from Westmoore High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Oklahoma Baptist University.
