Reading is the foundation for success in school and in life! The ability to read and write is necessary to master every subject and to communicate what is learned. Children who enjoy reading will continue to learn throughout their lives.

As a parent, you have an important role to play in helping your child become a better reader. You can help your child choose books that you know will fit their interests, you can offer encouragement and support as they build their love for reading.

Research shows that kids who spend at least 30 minutes a day reading books, magazines and newspapers are more likely to become good readers.

A parent's attitude concerning reading can make a big difference. For example, if your child sees you enjoying reading, they will have a favorable attitude about reading because of your interest.

Finally, you involvement in their reading and reading skills should not be forced or become contentious. Relax and have fun reading with your child.
